I was browsing the so-called Mormon scriptures, because e-Mormons were being very silly again with their doctrine of their god, on Twitter. I found something else by way of that research that is very interesting.

Now, someone might ask, if they read this old post, "Did Joseph Smith actually agree with traditional interpretation of the Sadducean Question?" After all, I initially based this on what some modern Mormon clergy, apologists, and scholars were saying. But for all I and they know, the Official Mormon Bible could be silent.

The answer is: yes, yes their fake bible does speak about this issue and confirms my previous claim. In Doctrine and Covenants, chapter 132, we have a supposed prophecy where Smith justified himself being a sex pest and "marrying" whatever woman he wanted, but we also have the bit about "celestial marriages". Read the snippets carefully. What are they saying?

They are saying that those Mormons who do not get a Temple-Sealed Marriage™ will become single incels in the afterlife, turning into angels who never "marry or give in marriage" and who are forced to serve the exalted ones. Those who are not Mormons, but are not in Hell, presumably face the same fate. Ditto for the damned according to Mormons! Joseph Smith is using the Sadducean Question and the absurd tradition about it to justify the false gospel practice of marriage sealing in Mormon temples. Nobody who has not been sealed with temple-approved marriage™ on Earth, Mormons included, can get it on in Mormon Heaven for all eternity. What a religion!

as a former mormon...

@SuperSnekFriend i think the workaround for this is sealings for the dead, because if you die and you haven't had that done you will basically be in something akin to purgatory where people from "heaven" prepare you to receive the ordinances that the people on earth do for you.

in addition to this, you may have heard that there are 3 kingdoms of heaven that acts as "tiers." telestial, terrestrial, and celestial. telestial is basically hell but it's not eternal punishment and all that shit, it's more or less just a worse version of the world we live in right now. terrestrial is kind of just the world we live in right now. celestial is more akin to the traditional idea of heaven, however what is less known is that there are also three tiers of the celestial kingdom. to be in the first one, you must be baptized in the mormon church. second, you must have gone through the temple and received your endowments. third, you must be married and sealed in the temple.

the only people going to hell (called "outer darkness") are the ones who had undeniable proof of God and still chose to go against Him. a notable example of this is Cain. the people who were good but never received any of the ordinances will end up in the terrestrial kingdom, and the ones who were bad and never received the ordinances will end up in the telestial kingdom. that's how it is in a nutshell.

as always, a lot of this stuff is solely to wield power over people and strike fear into them. there is a song called "families can be together forever" that children learn from a very young age that insinuates that the only way they'll be with their family in the afterlife is if they follow the Lord, which in the context of mormonism is of course their own teachings. this has resulted in my family, especially extended family, breaking down on numerous occasions because they don't think i will be with them in the afterlife. it's pretty sad to see, and this is how they get you. soul snatchers.

nevermind all of the "ordinances" performed in the temple are either inspired by or ripped directly from freemasonry.

Of course there is a "workaround" to pretend severe contradictions do not exist in Smith's "prophecies".

Glad you are out of that wicked religion and I'm sorry about your family situation. I'll pray for you and pray for their salvation. :praying:

@beardalaxy
Thanks for sharing, between you and HappyPotamus, my understanding of Mormonism has gone up like 100x.

re: as a former mormon...

@beardalaxy @SuperSnekFriend isn't the telestial kingdom better than earth in that all humans have resurrected perfect bodies and there is no material suffering (there is still regret you didn't get into the better kingdoms) my understanding is it's basically just a better earth. The Terrestrial however has direct access to spiritual gifts and Jesus visits it...

re: as a former mormon...

@sun @beardalaxy
The details do not really matter when their eschatological system contradicts the Biblical system, where Heaven and Earth are one, no tiers, and are only inhabited by the redeemed in Christ.

re: as a former mormon...

@SuperSnekFriend @beardalaxy if LDS is christianity, it is the only valid Christianity. If it is not the only valid Christianity, then it is a heresy.

re: as a former mormon...

@sun @beardalaxy @SuperSnekFriend LDS has more in common with Islam than Christianity

re: as a former mormon...

@sun @beardalaxy @SuperSnekFriend Doesn't this apply to literally every denomination?
@sun

It is. And a Sunday school teacher told me even Hitler and Pol Pot will get there because they didn’t get the chance to have full knowledge and deny it but that their baptisms for the dead will be performed if they haven’t already

@beardalaxy @SuperSnekFriend

@Leyonhjelm @SuperSnekFriend @sun I don't believe Jesus will leave the celestial kingdom, that's kind of the whole incentive to get there. I could be misremembering something though, it's been over a decade since I went to church last. People can go down to the lower kingdoms if they want to visit though, I know that.

Hitler has baptisms done for him all the time, actually. Names get cycled through for those "x for the dead" things and the explanation is that the people they are doing temple work for just haven't chosen to receive the good word yet, more or less. Theoretically, if Hitler did choose to receive it, he could go to the celestial kingdom.

@beardalaxy @SuperSnekFriend
Wow, this is really something. I had no idea how insane and obviously wrong mormon theology was.

re: as a former mormon...

@Hephaestic @SuperSnekFriend it's pretty crazy man, as I started to grow brain cells it became increasingly obvious to me how jacked it was and it caused a lot of internal dissonance
