There are only three genres of video game: Ponglike, Tetrislike, and Soulslike. All videogames can be categorized into one of these three.
Ponglike: Game that relies more on reaction time or physical dexterity than on thinking ahead or puzzle solving.
Tetrislike: Game that relies more on thinking or puzzle solving than on reaction time or physical dexterity.
Soulslike: Game that is primarily focused on not being fun.
@Alex this taxonomy falls apart as soon as you realize that many tetris versions would be classed as ponglikes and a number of things popularly classed as action games are properly tetrislikes under it

@allison @Alex tetris at higher levels is absolutely a ponglike

that is part of the joke

I also considered saying soulslikes are games focused on trial and error, but that felt less funny than saying theyre just any unfun game
@Alex @beardalaxy tbh I didn't catch on that you were joking, I've heard far too many gamers propose things like this in complete seriousness
gamers are incapable of describing anything in any way more complicated than saying it's like something else in some nebulous and undefined way, so I can't blame you for thinking it was serious.
