I heard that someone who has played RE9 early was invoking Devil May Cry when it comes to Leon's gameplay. It kind of looks that way, honestly. Seeing Leon tear through a zombie with a chainsaw, blow one's head off execution style, and then smash another one's head up against a wall with his boot all back-to-back is fucking awesome. I can't wait.
That sentiment is kind of funny, considering Devil May Cry was originally supposed to be an RE game.
@Jens_Rasmussen that being said I've always seen resident evil as a more action horror game when compared with a lot of other similar titles. There are games that are definitely more scary than others, but when you compare those to other dedicated HORROR games they don't really come close.
@Jens_Rasmussen resident evil 1-3 and 7 are closer to that kind of "survival horror" style. 4-6 and 8 are more action oriented. all of them are far more action-based than something like silent hill or fatal frame, and those are even more action-based when compared to more modern horror games that take combat out entirely, following in the footsteps of amnesia: the dark descent.
but yeah anyway, it's cool that we're getting a game that clearly has both styles of RE within it. it'll be interesting to see how well they manage to weave them together.
