Thoughts on using the p-word in art? 🤔

@FarTooHorny really not a fan. I'd rather it just say "lolicon" instead.

@beardalaxy Interesting, I've never thought about using lolicon or shotacon like that before. Clever workaround that's not as harsh/crass as the p word

@FarTooHorny i mean, that's what they say in anime isn't it? "senpai is a gross lolicon!" etc. i know that in-universe they could be interchangeable sometimes, but it really just rubs me the wrong way when i'm engaging with a fictional medium and i get slapped across the face with "you're such a pedo!" i don't like that line getting crossed. if i see artists doing that kind of thing frequently i'll unfollow/mute them.

@subnetter @FarTooHorny yeah that's why I brought up the in-universe thing. It's still kind of like, weeb shit vs being into real girls kind of thing for the actual viewer though imo because of the connotation. At least that's what it feels like to me.

@beardalaxy @FarTooHorny is it really weeb shit though? As a woman, I don't consume most anime because a lot of it, even favorites like Eva, do have fanservice and actively sexualize 14 year olds. Just because it is fictional, doesn't mean that there isn't sexualization of young women and girls in Anime and Japanese society as a whole. You can buy school girls' panties in vending machines, laws against child sexual abuse are questionable in certain regions. This is honestly why I consider it a red flag to be obsessed with anime, and I've encountered way too many perverts into it.

Lolita the novel, was intended to portray the horrors of pedophilia through the perps lens, and then became romanticized in pop culture by weirdos who missed the point like Lana del Rey. Lolicon as a term implies Japanese media containing underage characters for sexual consumption.

The fact that this is even a discussion further solidifies that there is cognitive dissonance with taking issue with the p-word being used, while having a preference for the sanitized terminology that casually facilitates sharing fictional media of underage girls.

@subnetter @FarTooHorny yes it's weeb shit, they aren't real little girls and so I would like to stay away from "pedo" being used in loli media because that word means somebody who is attracted to real little girls. It's even worse when it's like, MAP flags and shit.
