@GrungeQueef@beardalaxy@HonkHonkBoom I had to use passwords from Nintendo Power to get to the final boss. that game is WAY too cryptic, but I loved it.
so what are your thoughts about Princess Celena? i can't help but think she died like some 30-40 years ago before the events of game when the dragon destroyed the old castle (and town?). given that her portraits are only in a small upper portion of the underground ruins i think they were some ancient transport system for members of the royal family that the grandfather repurposed as a secret access to the dragon slayer sword's chamber after sealing the king dragon. those portraits have always haunted me and the thought of it being of someone who died a generation ago while still at a young age just makes the game feel even more cold.
@GrungeQueef@beardalaxy@Billy_Hughes@HonkHonkBoom the game doesn't have enough text to determine if she's alive by the events of the story or not. when I played it as a kid, I assumed she'd be another princess to rescue, but it doesn't happen.
by the way, Falcom has not forgotten Legacy of the Wizard. they made this shitpost anime short in 2015.
this whole game gets more and more depressing the more you think about what the deep lore could be. the instruction manual provides little information, but it seems to imply a lot of horror buried by decades of time.
as a kid in the heady space of zelda and metroid, this was another grand world more inscrutable than the others, i had pretty much forgotten about it until i came across it in the rom list on a handheld, first time i loaded it up it. so much nostalgia flooded back, been going back to it, still damned hard even if ya kind of remember what to do, still hard if ya look up maps even, great game,
