zeldy looks good, wish it was more than 1:1 remake but at least that means they can't fuck it up.

the internet will find a way to hate it anyway though i'm sure. i'll have fun with it.

@beardalaxy Yeah I just watched the trailer and it looks completely fine. Pretty much how you'd imagine OoT would look almost 30 years in the future.

@pettanko but because the graphics aren't troon-coded and have the tiniest bit of realism to them everyone's like "NITENDNOD HIRE THIS MAAAAN!"

@beardalaxy Yeah I feel like it's a pretty fundamental misunderstanding of what "NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN" was actually about but what do you expect from people whose thought process is chiefly guided by memes anymore.

@pettanko i know this is an immensely hot take on the internet but i honestly don't think cryzenx's later oot unreal stuff was all that bad. and the official remake looks 10x better than this does.

@pettanko but yeah the memes all started when it was like "what if sonic was in unreal engine?" and it was just sonic put in this default ass grass area with his basic ass moveset coded in really janky. but everyone went nuts over it for some reason.

@beardalaxy @pettanko I mean when you remember the Wii U Zelda "realistic" demo VS how BoTW was seen pre-release as "yet another toony zelda" (it would be more influential in Asia where open world games were very "western" games to the point even games like Genshin or Palworld got compared to it), to Sonic Unleashed and Generations having that very 360 era look to it. Nobody remembers their first impression seeing the leaked Sonic Unleashed screenshots.

"Nintendo hire this man" gamedevs making tech demos of "realistic mario" came out of that era.
@beardalaxy @pettanko I think the other problem is well, this is the Nintendo crowd, and they are stuck between thinking "Nintendo knows best" and shitting on trends everyone else does to be contrarian.

Outside Nintendo companies ran the realistic style into the ground, first being associated with the UE3 look and then in the PS4/5 era with "woke" shit, censorship, and soulless remakes that forego the art direction in favor of "does this look cool to the average idiot playing this game" as time went on.

Halo: CEA had this problem. I'm not even talking about Campaign Evolved here, but even that version had issues where the new graphics look flashy, brightened up, have questionable art choices, and removed even little things like baked in blood splatters on textures to tell you "something happened here".

So that crowd is conditioned to hate anything in a realistic style even if Zelda alternates every few years.
