what's with all these people that are so fucking upset that ocarina of time remake has a quest log because "i beat it when i was 8 years old and i never used a guide once." i call BULLSHIT dude. even if that is true, there is something else going on there. they had to ask a friend for help getting through some part, or their dad. maybe it was the only game they had and they just no-lifed it, eventually coming to the solution after playing for hundreds of hours.
it is the least egregious way possible to implement this kind of thing too, as far as i can tell there aren't quest markers it just gives you a little summary on what you've already done and where you should go next. it's basically turning navi's interjection hints into a neat menu.
i think this is people lying to make themselves seem like more professional gamers that are better than the rest of the dumb, retarded gamers out there that need dumb things like guides so they can beat games. there's no way a real gamer has gone their whole life without using a guide, i'm sorry there just isn't. we've all used them at some point.
@pettanko i just saw someone saying they beat it when they were 10 and they couldn't even read english lol
@pettanko idk man it all feels REALLY performative for me
@pettanko there is a theory that there will be more side quests in the game, there are a lot of NPCs in castle town that have speech bubbles talking about stuff that sounds very side-questy. so if we're going to be getting a decent amount of them, a quest log would be extremely handy.
plus i really like the tapestry thing they have. like, if you complete everything you get 100% of the tapestry filled out. extreme fairy tale vibes, i'm all here for it.
@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @pettanko I think the first game I actually beat was Pokémon emerald, had a physical strategy guide for that. Had to use it for the Regis. How else would anyone ever be able to do that shit? xD
@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @pettanko i've still got my original SP and emerald copy, which is in shockingly good condition other than the battery being dry. i'm not particularly attached to it so i'll sell it in a pinch, but not really until i've got a reason to. it'd be nice to give to my niece one day or something i suppose. her parents are major pokemon fans so she'll probably be into it lol.
@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club I wonder if I used a guide when i played the 3DS version of OoT...
I dont remember! I am almost sure I had to look up at least one heart piece. That's usually the case in every Zelda game that offers no hints for them.
@RehnyNytes256 i've played oot several times, i know a lot of the little secrets, i watch randomizer runs all the time, etc.
when my roommate was playing, we still had to bring up a guide a few times. we could have gotten to the solution eventually, sure, but when you've got a full time job and you've got limited time to play to begin with like... yeah i'm not going to look around aimlessly for five hours wondering wtf to do lol.
it was really bad when we took a break for a couple months and came back to it. no idea where to go and for some reason navi wouldn't tell us jack shit lol.
i think part of my issue was that the last time i played it was in 2018 and that was master quest, so it was a little bit jumbled. he also did like no side quests at all so we had no fire arrows and no sun song and had to kind of figure out how to do some things differently than how i have always done it.
but you know, there are going to be plenty of people who are playing this game for the very first time. i'd rather have a carefully curated "here's where you should check next" general piece of advice in the menu than people needing to look up a guide, if at all possible.
honestly when you're an adult and don't have a whole lot of time to play games, stuff like that (especially quest recaps) become super invaluable because if you're only playing for an hour a day and it's with all this other stuff happening in your life that you're more worried about... that kind of thing is really nice to have in a game.
i really liked witcher 3's cutscenes that played when you loaded the game to give you the run down on whatever you were doing last time you played. if that shit came out today though there would be some fucking OMEGA GAMER out there saying it was for liberals or some shit.
@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club I beat Master Quest with no heart containers or pieces. Everything was a one hit kill
i felt real accomplished!
I think i used a guide for one bombchu puzzle iirc
but I had played through ithe game normally a couple times and very recently so the pieces of the game and all it's mechanics were fresh in my mind so i didnt need a guide for that mess of a game mode, heh
. It was really brazen how they mixed up the dungeons the way they did for that mode
@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club needless to say, I doubt most people would run through a game so many times they can remember how to get through when it is mirrored and on a hard mode or whatever eithout a guide
i understand what you mean, hopefully the recap is just a helpful thing in the OoT remake and not anything too distracting as some gamers are concerned about.
...now about that artstyle and graphics tho
@RehnyNytes256 personally i love the art lol, it looks like a fairy tale and it's so far removed from anything i've ever seen in a game. there is a little bit of inconsistency as far as detail goes between the main characters and side ones, but honestly it's not a huge deal for me.
i played wind waker with double damage and no heart drops like 10 years ago, was really fun.
@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club I never played that mode of Wind Waker! I liked the blue shirt Link keeps throughout that new game plus mode 😆 and the gag that the hero's clothes are either invisible, or imaginary, when Grandma gives them to him on his birthday.
Lol. Poor senile grandma!
@RehnyNytes256 @beardalaxy@gameliberty.club Expert! That was one great game. So I’m guessing you’ve done that thing where Link meets little Zelda as an adult, and the first thing she does is stare at his manhood? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WC9ywj4glV0
@CharlesSynyard @beardalaxy@gameliberty.club I dont think I did do that!
admittedly i dont often glitch through games i play, i like to experience what is intended. I am a little crazy that way, most kids would want to glitch out through the map or find gameplay exploits. I think part of me craves a perfect, ordered world so i play games by strict or "intended" ways, lol. I don't know. No pushing boundaries!
quite a sight for Zelda there, and Link's appearance would probably inspire an interesting taste for older men in Zelda's innocent eyes
@RehnyNytes256 @beardalaxy@gameliberty.club Would have happened one way or another, and this was the better.
Thought of? Maybe Ganondorf was kneeling before the King to ask for the Hyrule Princess’s hand in marriage (the dusky Gerudos weren’t good enough, I guess). The reason he destroyed Hyrule Castle Town was that while Daddy agreed, Zelda had already escaped, and Ganondorf threw a fit and burned the place down.
Link, like Ataru, has to assemble a harem for his princess to be the centerpiece of, to prove that he is the better man. That’s why the Six Sages delay him entering Ganon’s castle (no doubt Saria’s idea).
Wow, typing this is making me want to pick up Tears of the Kingdom again.
@CharlesSynyard @beardalaxy@gameliberty.club now this is a good theory
hehee
@ShadowBroker @ChristiJunior i can see the frustration there for sure, you don't get a lot of time with your full arsenal. they did do a decent job of incorporating it into the final boss battle, but they could have gone further.
much better than the wild era games though when it comes to that, for sure. they have no gear to speak of and their final boss battles don't require the use of any of the powers, as far as i can remember. you just hit ganon really hard with big stick pretty much. extremely cinematic and seeing dorf's HP bar go off the screen in totk was cool, but yeah, mechanically extremely simple in comparison.
