@WandererUber to the treebrained poaster every thread looks like a temporarily embarrassed tree
@WandererUber owning the chuds by removing indentations

but actually if people actually like and use it i can bring it back.
@lain Indentation is one thing, not even soapbox had that and it was still readable (barely)
what fucks me over is not that they are flattened, they're out of order because you sort them chronologically and not by parent
@WandererUber the way to use this in pelmora is to hover over the reply to see the parent, but that might just be a workaround that's so ingrained by now that it seems like the best way to do it...
@lain @WandererUber personally i think the best nested posts or whatever solution was with some 4 chan frontend. I think it might've been 4 chan X or something. Many Years ago so no relation to Elon musk

@lebronjames75 @lain @WandererUber honestly, I like nested replies the most, where you have to click a reply to see what the other replies to it are and they are hidden otherwise. Mastodon's system genuinely sucks, it's so backwards and messy.

@beardalaxy @lebronjames75 @lain Yes, I think I would also prefer something like that. Even on r*ddit, they hide the deeper branches of the top reply, so others get a chance.

alas,
The vibeGODS code what they can and the codelets suffer what they must

@WandererUber @lain @lebronjames75 on reddit, I think a lot of stuff is usually displayed out in a tree format but you can collapse the branches. If it goes too far out then it starts making you click to show more and you can open the thread in a separate window to clean it up too. Idk about new reddit though I have it set to old mode.

I don't like trees that go out too far, though. YouTube is a good middle ground where it only goes like two layers deep and then just displays everything in a straight line after that. It is way easier to get back on track and see where people are replying to the original post again. It can get a little fucky on reddit because they'll extend like 5 trees out and it gets hard to tell who is replying to who, versus just having their @ in a reply right underneath in chronological order after a certain point.

@beardalaxy @WandererUber @lebronjames75 i guess i just never found any thread on fedi that was actually that twisted and deep that it made sense to me to use forum-like tree / nested views. although that may be self selecting as wanderer already mentioned, if your client makes all hellthreads looks unreadable, you won't read hellthreads.
@lain @beardalaxy @lebronjames75 Just to hammer it home, I think this thread is already a perfect example for how quickly it does become unreadable. And this one is mostly linear
