@beardalaxy the AI temptation is great. I'm dreaming of liberated Autodesk apps that run under linux and donut phone home.

It's truly hilarious that the AI revolution, which was supposed to usher in a technocratic surveillance state, is the very thing that will bring total freedom from the proprietary, closed-source software they've been corraling people into.

@Zeb @beardalaxy in the frontier phase, that seems to be the case. That would not, however, be my long-term bet.

@jeremiah @beardalaxy
I understand what you mean but think things through: other countries/people have no reason to go along and not hack/sabotage the AI of the west with their tyrannical bullshit. Hacking and open free alternatives are inevitable.

It will be very similar to what happens in the Cyberpunk 2077 story: you'll have the top grade shit belong to the corportations and the militaries (government/private) but the ground people will have all their modded stuff and hacking tools.

@Zeb @beardalaxy your assumption here is that you own and control your hardware. In the long term, I am not certain this is a reasonable assumption. chips are a choke point, tpm-type tech is a choke point, and registration of equipment to legally connect to the internet is check mate for all but the bold and grey.

Or maybe as you say. No crystal balls here.
@beardalaxy Real test of this is how many of the de/recomps stay maintained and usable. Especially in the face of potential legal action.
