... do people genuinely believe this? do people really not remember TFYC running a *women-only* game design contest, and 4chan getting to design a character for the game after donating to it? does history even mean anything any more?

the amount of chutzpah you must need to be able to spin "people donating money and a fun design to a feminist cause X had a disagreement with" to "harassment campaign against X"
@liangbeijiu @matrix surely you can understand that the intention also matters; it's not as though 4chan was doing this to actually further the feminist cause, it was part of a troll campaign, and the character was made with the intention to cause upset.

@qtd3n
>donating money to libs to own the libs
This ain't it chief

@matrix donating money doesn't prove that you support the cause; it's quite possible that the donator sees what they're doing as something bigger than the material benefit gained by the donation. Please stop being disingenuous about the "feminist" intentions of the forum most notorious for trolling and anti-feminism.

@qtd3n
I never claimed their intentions were feminist, but that doesn't make their intentions bad and playing the internet mind reader is quite disingenuous.

@matrix why would someone donate to a feminist cause, if their intentions are not feminist? Arguably we don't have to mind read if an archived version of the threads organizing it could be found, that ought to help show intentions. I have a feeling, though, that we wouldn't find any good intention for the cause, feminist or not.

@qtd3n
PR. Everyone does it.
Zoe Quinn made TFYC lose 10k so why not help them.
All of this was before GamerGate and it had nothing to do with feminism or hating women and everything to do with Quinn being a piece of shit.

@matrix you're saying that as if hating Quinn (by the way, is it hating her for that thing she never actually did?) is mutually exclusive with hating women, which as is evident in the GG movement is totally false.

@qtd3n
No, it isn't mutually exclusive, but Quinn isn't the representative of women, she only represents herself. Feminists =/= women. What we're talking about isn't even GamerGate, but the Quinntroversy.
GamerGate took of after it because journalists colluded to cover up their and Quinn's shitty behavior.

@matrix boy am I glad I spend enough time not engaged in internet controversy such that I don't have to know about misogynistic game journalism (fucking game journalism? lmao) controversies

@qtd3n
I wasn't part of it either, but gaming journalism is quite misogynistic ironically as there are now dozens prominent anti-GG figures accused or convicted of sexual harassment, rape or possession of child porn.
