oh right, i wanted to try vr chat one of those days
@lain i should use my vr crap for something other than beat saber as well
@lain @quad motion sickness? I wonder if it goes away after some time, i got somewhat sick the first time i played, but now i'm very resilient to it, can spend 8 hours straight in very shitty VR

t. 8 hour ETS2 VR sesh survivor
@lain @hj @quad have you experimented with fov? kind of a dumb question but making sure
@xeno @hj @quad not really. i don't want to play those games enough to experiment a lot. I'm fine with games where you essentially stay at the same place.
@lain @xeno @quad i think most games are designed to be mostly-standing but with some degree of freedom. I mean serious sam VR (except last hope) lets you move like you're playing with a gamepad, but I still instinctively move slightly backwards or to side, so the bigger the space - the less you'll see the virtual real wall "pls move back"
@hj @quad @xeno with 'stay in the same place' i mean where you stay in the same place in VR. like driving games or on-rails shooters.
@lain @quad @xeno oh. ETS2 VR is that type of game, but VR being literally glued on top of base game with spit and chewing gum makes it worse than serious sam SE VR.

But what about "stay in same spot" shooters tho (Serious Sam Last Hope) - it's basically a rail shooter but with no rails nor movement - you can't even teleport, only shuffle around in real life. Also stuff like.... (sigh) Rick and Morty virtual rickality / job simulator?

@hj
Have you tried VR games where the only movement you can do is the movement you can do IRL? Some games also have movement done in a way that you will basically pretend to run IRL to move in-game.
@xeno @lain @quad

@matrix @quad @lain @xeno Does Serious Sam: Last Hope count? It doesn't allow movement at all, but if your room allows for it you can move freely around it, and it actually beneficial since you can physically dodge projectiles this way.

The "Pretend you're running" is mostly bullshit and is more weird than anything, unreliable too. I'd rather have omnidireactional treadmill. Still a solution that allows playing dark souls pvp in VR would be the titest tits
@hj @matrix @lain @xeno Gorn does this weird thing where you drag yourself around.

You can basically just grab the air and then pull yourself towards it. I always found that a bit weird
@quad @lain @matrix @xeno the weirdest still is "wave your arms to move" and "walk in place to walk", drag yourself to pull is least weird i think.
@hj @lain @matrix @xeno It's not bad, just... unusual. Good idea though.

Can always play games like Superhot as well, where you can only move as far as I can IRL

@hj
Yeah that counts. It's probably the best way to do VR to eliminate motion sickness.
Oh. There are also VR games where you move by grabbing handles and pulling or pushing yourself towards and from them.
I think Horseshoes and Handgrenades has that.
@xeno @lain @quad

@hj
I saw some videos of Boneworks and it appears pretty cool.
Now Volvo needs to make HL3 with it.
@xeno @lain @quad

@matrix @lain @xeno @hj Elite Dangerous also supports VR.

Being a space sim, you kinda just don't have much of a sense of direction. So there's not much to make you motion sick.

Except maybe when you're landing on a planet.
@quad @matrix @lain @xeno also VTOL VR is fucking amazing, i only wish there was truck and train simulators like that
@matrix @quad @lain @xeno I played that, it needs bigger scale and real trains with real locations, that's why people actually play train simulator in the first place. Also IIRC derail valley doesn't let you interact with everything in the cab like VTOL does.
@hj @matrix @lain @quad @xeno I suppose its not really the same thing, but Rolling Line looked cute
@6a62 @matrix @lain @quad @xeno I guess market for Train Simulators is fairly tiny and already practically dominated by DoveTail, making a professional one, for VR doesn't seem very profitable. They (dovetail) could add VR support to TS like SCS sorta did with ETS2 but game already chokes in flat mode already, VR would be a slideshow.
