@mikelynch Learning about other schools of thought is useful and interesting.
The criticism that Kant was racist falls flat if you consider that 99.99...% of people in his time were racist and majority of the world population still is. Only westerners aren't allowed to be racist? 
Why focus on Western philosophy? Because it's the only philosophy that lead to the most free and prosperous society and because we live in the west and thus it's most relevant to us.
