@fluffy it's accurate, gorgron didn't implement plain text search for that reason

fse does have search, you just have to use mastofe
@orekix

wow talk about paranoia

Thanks for the tip.
Can you search by user? for example, I would like to find some posts I made in the past and follow up on them with new insights, but adding a user seems to only search for users
@fluffy not yet, I assume that would come when pleromafe itself gets a search and doesn't have to rely on mastofe for it
@orekix

i've been looking at misskey and it looks really cool.

why don't more people use it? do they not speak japanese?
@fluffy I used to host a misskey instance, it was a pain in the ass because it needed mongodb back then, now they have switched to postgres but still remains with few active instances. Feature wise it has a lot of things unique to it, probably more than mastodon or pleroma, the deck interface is probably what mastofe should be but it also is slower.

It hasn't really attracted a large userbase outside of the developer's main instance because it doesn't really fit any niche, pleroma is the lightweight alternative to mastodon so to speak, while mastodon had by far the most advertisement for being Nazi Free⢠and all that shit.

The interface gets translated to English so language is not a factor.

@orekix Yeah Iâm reading their featurelist rn

They have 2FA, search, some sort of drive file management for attachments, groups

It looks really good, and itâs vue/ts which is quite standard.

@orekix I might spin one up, or at least mess around on the misskey instance. what were some of the difficulties you faced?

@fluffy probably 4 gb of ram at least for everything enabled

ask @matrix to be sure, he runs an instance with the recent builds

@orekix
You probably need at least 4GB if you want search, because it uses Elastic Search, but Misskey itself doesn't need that much. I run Misskey on a VPS with 2GB of RAM and usage usually hovers between 40-60%.
@fluffy

@matrix @orekix

Is this for a personal instance or for some number of users?

What are your thoughts in general on misskey vs. mastadon and pleroma?

@fluffy @orekix
It's open, but there are only few users. It's called catgirl.life
I dunno tbh. Each one has their pros and cons. Mastodon is probably the most mature, but bloated. Pleroma is a bit iffy, but lightweight, modular and displays threads the best. Misskey is somewhere in between, but has a really fluid UI. The biggest problem with Misskey is poor documentation that's only in Japanese.
