Starship Troopers stole a lot of Nausciaa now that I think about it
@Elfie Intelligent bugs (they even have telepathy communication with humans) that are constantly harrassed by idiots who can't leave behind politic because Earth's population is brainwashed into not paying attention to all of their problems as long as there is some random war to care about constantly

@Majkatsu
I don't know about the other movies, but the first movie shows nothing like that.
The bugs declare war on humans, because a tiny fraction of humanity ignored the Federation's recommendations and violated the territory of the bugs.
It also shows that the bugs they kill in the entire movie are mindless killing machines.
@Elfie

@matrix @Elfie It's in the sequel, it's also implied that they never attacked in the first place in the first film if you're paying attention
@matrix @Elfie It's been awhile so I'd have to go look at it again but I remember it being a thing

I'll do it when I'm not waiting for people to finish buying train tickets so I can DM a D&D session ð
@matrix @Elfie @Majkatsu We actually know very little about the causes of the war because all we have is literal and very obvious propaganda. The motivations of the bugs are especially unclear. All we have is the interaction between the brain bug and a psychic at the end of the movie about what the bug feels. And what emotion does come to his head? Fear.
Meanwhile, the Federation's goals are made very clear throughout the movie. They want to kill every single bug. At the beginning, they don't even consider the bugs thinking beings, so this doesn't too bad, if we take aside how they presuppose an alien species that's capable of challenging them in a war would be unthinking. But even when their intelligence is proven, they never change their objective from outright genocide.
