>youtube video called "things only 2000's kids will remember"

if you are the target demographic you are 19 at most, how the fuck can you be nostalgic for a childhood you are still in the middle of go to class homie
@Majkatsu ok, real talk tho, something i realized only recently. My parents probably had more "stable" life, and my grandparents probably never moved from their first home for good 50 years. Meanwhile, in my lifetime things changes a lot and fast, i've lived in maybe 5 homes, in different cities, three different countries (technically), in my lifetime i've seen technology evolve from Doom 1993 to Doom 2016, several formats changed, streets and routes overhauled, new buildings built. I even get dreams about some old street i used to live on that's been completely overhauled in recent years, and in dream it's barely recognizable to the point where it was physically painful.

I imagine kids these days have it even worse, I mean, I imagine that to them fortnite battle royale is what doom was to me. I can still run Doom just fine (and even play DM with people), but fortnite will probably die irreversibly at some point and they will feel nostalgic about it. Their street might be reconstructed and they change some homes and jobs enough to feel nostalgic about that special one on the past.

@hj @Majkatsu they will be running fortnite in the senior homes for that reason

@pony @Majkatsu how would they do that if server software is closed and matchmaking servers are even more so? That's what i'm talking about - as time goes on people care less about preserving stuff - time is fleeting, life is short. We came from "now there's live tv" to "people want to watch movies at home, let's store movies on a medium" to "screw physical media, we'll just stream on demand, it's cheaper", and most people are ok with that, it seems.

@hj @pony @Majkatsu With a player base so large, someone will definitely write their own server software.

@matrix @pony @Majkatsu yeah, and get cease and desist'd most likely too, and then protocol changes and gets encrypted. Not to mention it's not like WoW which is already a game for turbonerds who already write lua addons for it and reverse-engineering it would be a bit tougher than writing lua addons for netting more e-sheckels on the auctions, while all i see that fortnite being avoided like plague by older generations with playerbase being kiddies wanting to be vloggers and tiktok stars.

I'm not saying it's unlikely, i'm saying as time goes by, chances keep on dropping.
@hj @matrix @pony Computer literacy increases over time, if anything chances increase as time goes by

Nobody cares about cease and desists, you can still get the samus 2 remake even if they took a shit on it so they could make money
