@igeljaeger Wait? What changes did you make? It has a config file.

@igeljaeger Oh, right.
Don't bother. The bot is fucked with Pleroma. I just tried to revive mine and it breaks when trying to get Pleroma posts.

@matrix gotta wonder then if it works on that fedibooks website. Jpop club isnt banned
@phoenix @matrix @p where can I find that? Dont know about any websites or github pages p has.
@igeljaeger @phoenix @matrix Her bot's a shit bot anyway, it requires an archive of all posts because it actually retrains every time (despite the library she uses supporting serialization of the training data), and because that's slow as hell it retrains from a random selection of 1,000 posts, and retries if it can't generate one. It's seriously shit code. I wrote this so people would be able to have something that does the same thing, except it's way faster, way fewer dependencies, doesn't make you run a damn webserver, easy to script if you want to shoe-horn it into a clicky thing, etc. I did it after that whole stupid drama where she noticed someone did a bot version of me and then she posted the auth token, intentionally compromising the @pbooks account (on the grounds that the person that set it up and I were both fascists somehow).

Anyway, I haven't posted that bot on Github yet but it doesn't require a goddamn browser or have a build step or anything, it is easy to script. I'm really good at not remembering to update the jojobot or pbort bios to include a link to the source, but here's the source. Directions are at the top of the file, --help should help from there. I erred on the side of overdocumenting it.

Here are the crontab entries for @jojobot, for example:

11 * * * * /path/to/embot train -d /path/to/.embot https://freespeechextremist.com/users/Jojothegoodperson
29,59 * * * * /path/to/embot post -d /path/to/.embot https://freespeechextremist.com/users/Jojothegoodperson jojobot freespeechextremist.com

Once an hour, it trains, then twice an hour it posts. (The reason it posts four times an hour is because it also uses his KF account, and both of them post to the same place.)
embot
@nik @igeljaeger @jojobot @matrix @pbooks @phoenix I don't know. She was trying to make cash doing it at one point, so I think it's got to do with that, although some coders literally do not understand that it's possible to make a program without a web UI. Hers is a fork of someone else's, and to begin with it is just glue code between a Markov chain library and a Masto client library, plus a web framework and a bunch of HTML. So you have to run a webserver and make an account on the web application, it gives you a bot management screen, etc. Pain in the ass.
@igeljaeger You need to install the headers when you see stuff like that. The -dev packages for Ruby, libxml, json. Toss in build-essential while you're at it.

Debian is a fuck. The amount of time wasted on "Oh, you need the -dev package", splitting libraries up like that, is way worse than the 200k that would be consumed by just installing the headers.
@p @igeljaeger Aye, same deal with *-doc, too much of the time, which I feel is even worse.
@tejrnz @igeljaeger Yeah. I don't even see .deb on small systems much anyway, they're all .ipk-based if they even have a package manager. I haven't tested this out, but I have a suspicion that the package management overhead for having packages split into three pieces might actually consume more space than the headers themselves.
@p I isntalled ruby-full now which included ruby-dev. But I still get this error when trying to gem install nokogiri. Json worked but theres no libxml to be found but I do have libxml2 installed

@igeljaeger With zlib1g-dev or libzstd-dev or something like that?

Worst-case, you can always brute-force it by doing 'strace -ff -v -t -e trace=open -o /tmp/s gem install nokogiri', then look at the last .h file it couldn't find before it failed.
@p if you ever release this bot please include a debian manual :airilaugh:
@igeljaeger Yeah, looks like you'll need the -dev packages for zlip, too. PITA.

Any time it tries to compile something and says it can't find it, try checking if you have the -dev package.
