@matrix Took us a few days to recreate our elasticsearch indexes... consider yourself lucky :)
@freemo Holy cow. How many statuses does your DB contain? Mine only has 36 milion
@matrix well we do have 40x the user count you guys have.
@freemo Yeah and bigger reach
@matrix yea, that too. Overall way more needed indexing I'm sure.
Plus we have probably been around much longer. QOTO is several years old and we have kept a complete history since our founding.
@freemo Not by much though. I've been around since October 2018 and kept a complete history too.
You did a much better job at attracting users.
@freemo I went in aggressively from the start arguing, memeing etc so I got quite a few block recommendations almost immediately.
Even though registrations were always open and I'm quite thankful for my users, I always ran this instance more like a personal instance.
Plus I probably should have thought of a better name. ![]()
@freemo That is true. The author of the article that called Mastodon dead used such an instance.
You mainly have bigger reach due to a bigger more diverse userbase.
Although fediverse.space says that mine has currently more neighbors. I think they count only few last days.
@matrix fediverse.space 's "neighboors" isnt actually showing federation. It is based on what it "sees" and mostly based on how people talk to eachother than actual fediration.
If you want to see peer count I recommend you use fediverse.net instead, it is based on actual federation.
QOTO has 7,799 peers
gameliberty has 5,384 peers
@matrix QOTO has a ton of block recommendations too.. yet somehow we remain one of the most connected instances out there.
What people don't realize is the sort of instances that block excessively or recommend blocking have very low peer rates. so they tend to be the instances that have little influence over a servers federation. It is of more value to stay connected to instances that do not readily block, which in and of itself will get you blocked by the instances that do.
