We were supposed to go on a vacation today, but our brakes got stuck and started smoking on the highway. Good thing we stopped in time and the tires didn't pop and it didn't catch fire. Looks like the mechanic fucked up when changing the brake pads.

I guess so. The problem is we have a uncommon car so finding a mechanic is harder.
@matrix @RehnSturm256 don't know your exact situation, but I have had calipers fail very soon after a brake pad change. Might not necessarily be shoddy workmanship. Glad you got it stopped in time.
