@Elfie @ArdanianRight @matrix It's all relative. My dad once told me about traveling from Romania to Yugoslavia, and being struck by the living standard in Yugoslavia being so much higher, despite both being communist countries.

Yugoslavia had more open relationship with the west. One way you could escape the Soviet block is by being allowed vacation in Yugoslavia and crossing the borders to the west there.
