Here's a hypothesis:
Building border wall and making border crossing between US and Mexico harder supports organized crime due to simple economics. It increases the entry fee into the drug market as more expensive elaborate plans are needed to smuggle things across the border (like digging a gigantic tunnel), which only large criminal organizations can afford which means they potentially become a monopoly and can charge higher prices, increasing their profits.

If the motivation for building a wall is lowering crime and if my hypothesis is true, crime will either stay the same or increase.
