@gopiandcode
What FOSS games? There are no good FOSS games and games made for profit that went FOSS 10 years later don't count.
@rgk

@Moon @gopiandcode @matrix @rgk no one plays it, and it's made specifically as just a way to play quake 3 arena with free assets

xonotic is a better example
@shpuld @gopiandcode @matrix @rgk I feel like openarena would still be good if it had some fresh maps/textures/player models. obviously pretty low-poly these days.
@Moon @shpuld @gopiandcode @matrix
y'all made me remember how I used to be blown away by bump mapping in Halo:CE.
Oh god and when we installed OG FarCry on our potato-tier PC.
> Look at that water bro! HOLY SHIT that water. Muh FPS bro!
@rgk @Moon @gopiandcode @matrix still looks and plays great, shame it's not easy to get running with modern graphics drivers
@shpuld @Moon @gopiandcode @matrix Star Wars KOTOR and Halo:CE blow me away with how good they look even today. Sure the tex res and poly count is low, but their lighting, level design and art style is more than enough to hold em up for me even today.

Also KOTOR 1 has moving grass lol.

@rgk
The Xbox version. The PC version of Halo:CE is broken.
Running some late gen PS2 games or Gamecube games on an emulator in 4k makes you see just how much the work of the artist went unappreciated since people played those games in like 480i.
@gopiandcode @Moon @shpuld

@matrix @gopiandcode @Moon @shpuld I only ever played PC version. Am not talking new 343 version either (although I did play that too). The OG PC release. Am I missing out on even more Old Bungie quality?

@rgk
Yeah you are. The MCC version is broken because it takes after the OG PC version.

@gopiandcode @Moon @shpuld

@matrix @rgk @gopiandcode @Moon the issues are very much blown out of proportion imo, sure it's nicer to have all the effects work but it's perfectly fun and playable with the drawbacks

@shpuld
Yeah. I think the bump maps are kinda a big deal, but the rest is just small visual flair.
@gopiandcode @rgk @Moon

@matrix @shpuld @gopiandcode @Moon see for me the transparent shader is a bigger deal lol
@matrix @gopiandcode @rgk @Moon I remember the bumpmapping being pretty damn subtle on xbox, I played pc version at home and xbox version at friends house and couldn't tell there was differences in how surfaces were rendered. jackal shields were easy to notice tho
@shpuld @matrix @Moon @gopiandcode btw the only thing that I hate old Bungie for is their coop netcode. I can't play with my buddies overseas to this day :(
And ofc 343 refuses to fix it, even though they did it for Reach's firefight.

Big reee! :senko_cry:

@shpuld
I think that it was less visible on the Xbox because like I said in a previous post, those games were played on a low resolution often with composite so you just didn't notice the details.
@gopiandcode @rgk @Moon

@matrix @gopiandcode @rgk @Moon I think there's a bit more to it, less surfaces in CE were properly bumpmapped and the baked lighting didn't have that big of impact on it. halo 2 was very clear in the way everything was bumpmapped on the same tv we used for ce (also using scart with less artifacts)
@shpuld @matrix @Moon @gopiandcode but halo 2 looks very flat in comparison to CE. They have very flat lighting that makes bumpmapping barely noticeable? (Coming from Halo 2 for Vista experience tho)
@rgk @Moon @gopiandcode @matrix 2 trades more complex interesting looking geometry for shitty looking bumpmaps in a lot of areas, I think the game just looks worse
@shpuld @Moon @gopiandcode @matrix yeah I think that halo 2 looks worse too. But hey still fun gameplay. And it was pushing OG Xbox limits anyways. Also rushed dev.
@matrix @gopiandcode @Moon @shpuld
> coop worked flawlessly

_cries in 1s input delay_ :senko_shock:
@matrix dude holy shit, so you're saying pelicans aren't supposed to look like they are covered in dirt and look flat and trash?

Okay is there an OG xbox emu on loonix?

@rgk There is CxBx-Reloaded which can run under Wine but it's not far enough in development

@matrix there's also xqemu it seems, but both seem like not far enough to be usable too much?

I have modded 360, and MS made official OG emu for 360, didn't they? :blobcatthonking:
@matrix @gopiandcode @Moon @shpuld dude bro bruh wtf. The jackal shields taking damage looks SOOOOO GOOOD
