@shebang @matrix @maxmustermann i have long wondered if body positivity started with the intent of appreciating plump gorls and was co-opted by morbidly obese whales.

@icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann And look — I’m not just being like “haha fatties die” because I used to be 285 lbs. That’s way too fat. I lost the damn weight and now I look pretty good and feel vastly better. Shit it ain’t easy, but damn it can be done if you decide your life is worth it and have a little willpower.

As someone who is down from 330 pounds to 185 (and still trying to lose), I can definitely say no willpower is needed. If you're eating properly, your body is getting what it needs and therefore isn't "craving" anything.

@shebang @icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann
@phoneboy @shebang @matrix @maxmustermann it can take some willpower to get over various food addictions.

and a lot of crap advice out here (including a lot of doctors) where they try to get you to just eat smaller amounts of poison or whatever, and hope you stop at exactly 0.7ths of a donut.

@icedquinn @phoneboy @matrix @maxmustermann Yeah seriously. Like… I have such a terrible sweettooth. I looooove pastries… mm delicious warm pastries of all kinds.

Nope, no more of those ever lol. :blobderpsad:

Or the weekend pizza overdose. Yeah that’s not a thing anymore. I mean bad habits, right? But they are things you gotta stop doing. Snacking while watching TV, etc etc. It takes changes to your lifestyle, man.

@icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann @phoneboy I donno about Keto, isn’t it just Fatkins with some tweaks? I mean it strikes me as a fat diet. Being more active and keeping track of my calories has worked well for me, even if its not particularly pleasant.

I keep hearing that if I’m eating the “right” magic food, then I won’t get hungry but what exactly this mysterious super food is eludes me. I just adapt to being hungry.

@shebang @matrix @maxmustermann @phoneboy i keep hearing people dissing keto diets but keto and paleo diets have historic precedents as people's daily diets.

your pre-grain ancestors were already eating them. :cirno_for_reals:

@icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann @phoneboy I’m just saying I don’t trust the fads. Our ancestors just ate whatever it was they could shove in their gob, and even if it was kinda unhealthy they burned it off chasing down wildebeests or running away from tigers.

And also, our ancestors didn't eat all the fucking time. They ate when they had food. Feast and famine, as it were.

@shebang @icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann

@phoneboy @icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann Yeah exactly, I mean, we have just food — tasty food even — just lying around. It makes for a challenge for me, since I love to just eat.

If it's actually the food your ancestors would have eaten, I'm totally onboard with that. What I'm not onboard with is 99% of packaged foods that claim to be paleo or keto.

@icedquinn @shebang @matrix @maxmustermann
@phoneboy @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang i have nothing to do with food packaging companies. i picked them up from Taubs' "Why We Get Fat" (tl;dr metabolic syndrome was a meme until refined sugar and flour, thanks europe.) and Ferris' slow carb (which is basically, no refined sugar, flour, don't drink/eat industrial bleached shit.)
@phoneboy @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang but there are cookies like this https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/261181/4-ingredient-keto-peanut-butter-cookies/ you can make with monk fruit extract or stevia and it's only slightly worse than just jamming peanut butter down your mouth.

and since you can get clean peanut butter that isn't too bad at all :blobcatdrool:
@matrix @maxmustermann @phoneboy @shebang someone poasted that almond flour has the shitty phytocilic acids that a lot of beans also have, although you can sidestep that with moderation, supplements, sprouting or other alt grains.
I avoid artificial sweeteners as well. If I have something sweet, it's going to be the fruit itself or something sweetened with sugar or honey. And that's not something I do very often because it fucks with my satiety.

@icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang
@phoneboy @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang stevia and monk fruit aren't artificial, although in pure forms they are hard to obtain and do have their own flavor profiles.

raw stevia is.. distinct. but it's just some leaves that were ground up and glitch out and taste like sweetener.

not sure about monk fruit. haven't been able to find it without erythratol.
I don't think sweeteners are a good idea, period, except in the very occasional dessert.

@icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang
Gary Taubes is a smart dude. So is Nina Teicholz, who is basically Gary Taubes with a vagina, as Vinnie Tortorich likes to say.

@icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang

>Keto
>packaged food

Why would people buy that shit when they want to go Keto? Most the ingredients of most processed food is beaten or frozen into unrecognizable chunks so machines can deal with them better. Even the healthiest prepacked foods are dry frozen and slathered with an entire chemical lab before they get into that sack.
Because people are lured by bullshit marketing terms and want an "easy" solution. They don't want to do the work.

@maxmustermann @icedquinn @matrix @shebang
@phoneboy @icedquinn @matrix @shebang
How lazy can you be? I understand it with things like roasted peanuts or crisps. Even Sushi (granted frozen Sushi is shit relative to the real thing).
>How lazy can you be?
Is that a real question or a rhetorical one? Based on my own experience, very lazy. :P

@maxmustermann @icedquinn @matrix @shebang

@phoneboy @maxmustermann @icedquinn @matrix For me, think of the number 8, now rotate it on its side. That’s how lazy I can be.

Speaking as someone in marketing, keto is an unregulated bullshit marketing term. Any packaged food that claims to be keto is, 99 times out of 100, abject garbage that shouldn't be eaten.

Eat real food with simple ingredients that you know what they are, can purchase and make yourself. Avoid sugars, grains, and seed oils like the toxic waste they are.

@icedquinn @shebang @matrix @maxmustermann
@phoneboy @icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang anyone in here heard of sugar the bitter truth? Robert Lustig has done great research on sugar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z5X0i92OZQ

It's a long video lecture intended for educational purposes, but it's wildly informative. I figured if anyone doesn't know what this is, maybe they might be interested
@phoneboy @icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang Oh right, major takeaways: too much of anything is bad, that's a given, sugar is a poison on the level of alcohol because it breaks down in the body the same way, fat is ok, carbs are ok, red meat is ok, it all comes down to sugar, and he proves this by highlighting the pre-sugar diets of the Japanese and their obesity rates before and after sugar entered their collective diets. He also highlights the high-carb Italian diet. He also does a lot more, but these were the major takeaways for me
While sugar is bad (no question), I’ve come around to the fact seed oils are even worse. Cottonseed oil was literally a waste product until Proctor and Gamble figured out how to make it edible. It became: Crisco.

Pretty much every “vegetable” or “seed” oil is made the same disgusting way.

@coyote @icedquinn @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang
They cut a lot of avocado oils and olive oils with seed oils, FYI. Can’t believe companies are allowed to lie to you, but it’s perfectly legal. 😭

@icedquinn @coyote @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang
@phoneboy @coyote @matrix @maxmustermann @shebang i haven't checked what ours is. usually the organic non-gmo stuff doesn't have shenanigans.

the canola oil though yeah, who knows. that stuff -had- to be gmo'd because they removed the part where canola is poisonous.
No doubt getting to the point where you don't want to eat an entire bag of Doritos requires some work, but it's far less than you think. And yes, there are some foods you just cannot have and it's different for each person.
