@matrix I'm not sure if there was ever an order of the Catholic Church to not allow people outside the clergy to read the bible, while keeping it in Latin seems like a rational decision to make sure you won't get stuff from the Word of God lost in translation.
I really don't know, but it sounds like one of those myths like "The Inquisition killed millions of people" or thinking the Crusades were some sort of evil endeavor.
It's another one of those weird, typical dumb leftist notions about the history of the Church. The Catholic Church organized this collection of books that makes the bible, they were the ones who chose what is there, but they didn't want people to know what was in there so they could lie about the content? Of the book they organized themselves? Have these degenerate atheists considered that if the church wanted to be this tyrannical institution ruling the world, the bible would have been a collection of books made to promote this goal, and they would want everyone to read their propaganda book as often as possible? It's so stupid.
