@LouisConde @MechaSilvio @matrix tbh there's actually nothing wrong with opiates for short term severe pain. I was prescribed vicodin for dealing with kidney stones but was very aware that it was serious fucking shit and not to be overused, like don't take it for your daily sinus headache.
the problem comes when people use them for long term injuries, that's where the addiction is most likely to set in.
but to be fair, I would actually rather live a shorter life with less pain than a longer life with more pain, and that should be an option people can choose for themselves.

@PepeWalnuts @MechaSilvio @matrix The people I were talking about in this situation weren't prescribed opiates. They were stealing them from their parent's medicine cabinet and crushing them up to intentionally get fucked up. I agree they have legitimate use in certain scenarios, but the epidemic wasn't really the result of such cases.

I'm thinking more shit like Kurt Angle where he was prescribed them for a broken neck but then just kept getting prescribed massive amounts of them even when it was clear he was overdoing it.
