@djsumdog @matrix You know, if instead of bitching that reddit is so evil, just a few of these folks moved to alternatives, then it wouldn't matter how evil reddit is.

There's like 9 lotide instances out there, and among all of them there's like 5 active users, despite it being a decentralized reddit alternative that as far as I can tell isn't run by censorship loving commies.

But even among the censorship loving commies there's only like a dozen instances of the other decentralized reddit alternative!

@sj_zero @matrix It’s difficult to build a network effect I think. oh someone on here setup a Lemmy that I was trying to post stuff to regularly … I should do that again .. and it’s gone: https://lm.neko.bar/ 😞 Aw @nekojanai I’m sorry! I tried!

I personally rarely go onto Reddit, but I did get really sucked into HackerNews, which I completely stopped using after I was banned.

I use some of the .win sites and phucks as far as link aggregation platforms, but nothing that’s federated. Hmm.. maybe I should setup a Lemmy, or that fork of Lemmy without the world filter.

@djsumdog @matrix @nekojanai Personally, after applying custom CSS I'm really happy with lotide. my instance is at https://lotide.fbxl.net/

Nothing super fancy, but it does the business and it's federated, and with the install guide I put together it's straightforward to install, which is a problem I've had with a number of other projects. https://lotide.fbxl.net/posts/3

The thing I'm starting to realize about the fediverse is how incredibly versatile it is. Yes you can cross post between servers and subscribe to other people's servers using lotide, but you can also subscribe to a community using pleroma. Same with peertube channels. In a sense, you get a true distributed web where everything connects to everything else.
