>Most governments encourage homosexuality - the United States is neutral

Not anymore these past 10 years.

@matrix
@GrungeQueef @matrix It says United Nations is neutral. USA is not.

The Forever War - thanks to relative time, FTL means time barely changes for you but everywhere else is going at normal breakneck pace... also the future requires government-mandated homosexuality to decrease birthrates, apparently.

Minor dyslexia on my part, I guess.

In order to go FTL, you have to hit a collapsar at some fraction of C, and then the ship will come out the other side of a different collapsar across the galaxy.

Collapsars are basically small black holes. The time dilation comes from the ship spending time near C.

If you can, listen to the audio book. One it's a good book and two it makes the whole thing sound even more sinister.
I clipped these sections but never did anything with them. The book is from 1974

The stuff on Earth was supposed to be so outlandish every time he came back from war to demonstrate that home wasn't really home anymore.

Imagine going away for a year, but 30 years Earth time, and coming back to this bullshit. I'd get right back on that space shuttle and go back to the war too.
That's exactly what the main character did.
At one point, he tried to make a life on Earth, but ended up killing an immigrant in self defense, like a nigger in Ireland or something.
So as sick of war as he was, going off and fighting aliens was better than the bullshit on Earth.
@matrix Fantastic novel. I really enjoyed "Tools of the Trade" and "Camouflage" as well.
