Sorta good point but also not. High levels of partisanship aren't something new in history or to humanity, but are something new in modern history and Hollywood is helping/profiting from it.
I haven't watched ST yet so I can't answer, but that might be a reason why. The author wasn't allowed cringy preaching so he had to use his brain and write more compelling story and characters.
