@matrix The gold plating is just to keep them from getting corrosion/oxidation which makes them sound better than if they had corrosion/oxidation. Copper is a better conductor than gold but copper likes to interact with oxygen :liberty:
Gold is used because it's a pretty good conductor but it chemically interacts with very little so you'll always get a good connection.

@sjw @matrix So they persist longer. I was always told gold plating had to do more with preventing interference in the signal, but I don't know enough to know if that's true.

@punishedmob @matrix Well corrosion/oxidation could cause a poor connection that could introduce noise that sounds like interface so there's that
