Wait, Chromium has disabled hardware acceleration on Linux?

@matrix /usr/lib/brave-bin/brave --type=gpu-process

Shows up in nvtop for me

@matrix I know you can build it with hardware acceleration

@sjw Yeah, but default it isn't and I don't get why

@matrix I think I remember seeing a bug report about how it could cause some issues with NVIDIA graphics in some situations so they just disabled it.
@matrix similar to why the browser was removed from OBS on Linux (not just a build flag but disabled in the code).
It'd apparently cause issues/conflicts with gnome3 so it was removed for everyone.
It's back now and is a regular build flag but still...

@sjw I think it's been like that for at least 4 years now

@matrix it's a build flag now but it's not enabled by default so you have to build it yourself.
No more patching the code yourself to enable the build flag on Linux tho.

@sjw We need to bully Vivaldi devs into enabling it

@matrix just build chromium from source with the vaapi flag
Brave might have it enabled I think
@sjw @matrix it's time to shut down the GNOME foundation
@undu @sjw @matrix Time to start the XFF (X Forever Foundation) and put our donation money into autistic devs who've been boned by Wayland and Gnome (all of them) :aaaaaa:

@sjw Oh. Why not just disable the hw accel when a nvidia card detected?
