johnny somali looking at 29 YEARS in prison in Korea after groping comfort women memorial statues
@sun South Koreans should not pay for his prison time. He deserves deportation, he has no intention to respect the culture or assimilate.
@matrix @lain @sun @thatbrickster His father is actually from there so it’s not far fetched, both his parents are from Africa
@arcana If he was from the UK, he wouldn't have automatic citizenship as neither of his parents are British. I hear Trump wants to repeal birth right citizenship, which he himself benefits from. Obviously won't retroactively apply but would be a start.

@matrix @lain @sun
@thatbrickster @matrix @lain @sun yep, birthright citizenship is a genuinely silly idea which is very prone to abuse and makes very little sense
@arcana @matrix @lain @sun @thatbrickster Same could be said about marriage citizenship which in my opinion is even more silly.
@phnt @matrix @lain @sun @thatbrickster marriage makes more sense, and was historically the ritual through which people would transfer to a new land or create new ties. Catherine the Great became Russian through marriage after all.

The entire purpose of marriage is to forge connections to a new land.
@arcana @matrix @lain @sun @thatbrickster That was almost 300 years ago and the times have changed. Now it's used maliciously as a quick way to get citizenships somewhere else. Especially with the usually unwanted immigrants that after marriage have full access to the European welfare state.
@phnt I believe citizenships via marriage are valid but dual citizenships not so. When you marry, you should relinquish any previous citizenship.

I get your point about abuse, especially since we tolerate arranged marriages under the guise of religious freedom.

@arcana @matrix @lain @sun
@mischievoustomato Edge case is if the marriage is anulled (i.e. divorce). An argument could be made that the citizenship they're marrying into overrules any previous, so they don't lose it in case a divorce would make them stateless.

@arcana @phnt @matrix @lain @sun
@thatbrickster @phnt @matrix @lain @mischievoustomato @sun marriage doesn’t actually grant citizenship directly, just residency

@arcana @lain @sun @phnt @thatbrickster @matrix tfw no american gf to marry (this sounds abusive but i would only marry someone i would want to be with fr)

@thatbrickster @arcana @matrix @lain @sun Trump's mother was a naturalized citizen at the time he was born, someone born in the same situation after his theoretical policy change would still be a citizen automatically. His father could have had a different situation, but information is harder to find than I want to research.

Kamala on the other hand would have to go elsewhere.
