Have you guys heard the word "tribalism" used in reference to societal (esp. political) polarization before?

@realcaseyrollins yes, but usually exclusively from liberals.. it tends to be the same people who use terms like colonialism and imperialism to attack "the man" or whites.

@freemo Interesting. My mom said something similar. But I'm pretty sure I've been using the term from months.

My vocabulary must have been influenced by lefties! LOL.

@freemo

Huh, I mostly hear it from conservatives/right-libertarians (Eric S. Raymond uses the description frequently). I'm surprised it's not a term you more frequently encounter, since that's also where you were on the compasses you did a while back.

@realcaseyrollins

@khird @freemo I generally don't get a chance to talk politics with people IRL. I used to every once in awhile in college, but very few college kids are comfortable talking about politics all the time.

@khird

According to the compasses I've done they almost all agree I am left leaning, but towards the middle, so not conservative.

@MarcusAgrippa

LOL! I love this response.

Your second option is interesting. Perhaps this is just young people vernacular?
