~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

Users: Hey if Mastodon did X, it would make it trickier for abusive people to do something, which would prevent some abuse

Weird dudes on github: It wouldn't *prevent* anything. With a great amount of effort, you could work around this, and then anyone could have the information you're trying to hide, as long as they know Ruby, Python, Perl, Haskell, Fortran and punch-card—

Pleroma devs: We already built a feature that automates the abuse you're afraid of

@bgcarlisle *sighs* I really like Pleroma, /except/ for this. Wish they didn't do that.

~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

@bgcarlisle Now, I have no idea /why/ they do that. I should probably ask somewhere.

~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

@IceWolf You can probably guess

Pleroma meta re: ~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

@bgcarlisle Honestly? I really don't know.

I'm currently operating on the assumption that they have good intentions but are going about things /completely/ wrong. Which seems to be the case, well, most of the time.

[/Some/ things I can see – like they have good reasons for a setting to not federate outgoing blocks, even though I don't really agree with it personally.

But the "deny follow blocked" setting? What is that even /for/?]

Interesting

Pleroma meta re: ~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

@bgcarlisle @IceWolf maybe in the past, but the anime nazi fanbase that gave the software a bad name is all the developers hang out around these days.

Even now the one person I defended has let the culture poison her to the point where I just can't. All of the "hypothetical hackers" are on their side too, the concern about Pleroma is justified.

Good intentions? Nobody believes they are the villain.

re: Pleroma meta re: ~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

@wolfcoder if you're going to talk shit about me, you can at least do it to my face. besides, i left the project back in january.

re: Pleroma meta re: ~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

@kaniini there's no point in talking since the thing you did I'm not going to forgive.

re: Pleroma meta re: ~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

@wolfcoder the thing i did was what, precisely?

re: Pleroma meta re: ~ The Fediverse safety feature cycle ~

@wolfcoder at any rate, leave me out of your bullshit drama, by name and by subpost. you, Gargron, Alex Gleason, the Funkwhale dev, and the people who created a discord to literally harass me, already won: i left all fediverse development. find somebody else to be your Goldstein.

@kaniini @wolfcoder It didn't really seem to me that Gleason was against you. Maybe I'm wrong?
