@isi I only speak enough pretzel to see this seems to be a post about "fuck microsoft" :blobcatwhatsthis:
@icedquinn I've got a laptop from work but with ubuntu which is pretty cool from them but now they also want me to join a safety briefing via "skype for business" which is WINDOWS ONLY
I hope they'll question their life choices after my "I don't have any windows system @ home, not even the laptop I've got from you has windows on it, how am I supposed to join the briefing??" mail
@isi @icedquinn It's hard to believe how often companies make tech related mistakes like this. It's like computing is an esoteric subject that even the people making the decisions about the use of computers is not expected to understand if they are not the IT guy.
@deadheat @icedquinn I am very impressed by the Ubuntu Laptop tho
Python3, Pip3, git, etc. is pre installed by our IT and properly configured so that you can just start your research with it, it's pretty nice
@isi @deadheat i wish the college i went to lent us computers :blobcatoh: we had to buy and bring our own, and then 200$+ books on top of that, and computer use was mandatory to activate these stupid book codes to protect the textbook cartel.
@realcaseyrollins @deadheat @isi yes, i had a machine for that short trip. it since broke down due to a manufacturing defect out of warranty and i replaced it with a ten year old clunker from ebay.
@icedquinn @realcaseyrollins @deadheat oh okay... which country are you at? :meowtilt:
at germany its common sense that every student has to have an own laptop, I know someone who got their laptop payed by the social welfare office so even if your parents get Hartz IV you are able to get your own laptop
@isi @deadheat @realcaseyrollins :blobcatyes:

EU won't take me because i'm not syrian, and don't have a college degree already.

swiss also denies student visas to anyone 30 or over.

germany requires a funded block account for a student visa and work isn't allowed for foreigners (unless you get approved for 'minimal work')
@icedquinn @deadheat @realcaseyrollins
what are you studying?
which work direction are you going?
I don't think I can help you while you're studying but if you want to flee over here after your graduation (you! can! do! it! :blobcatcheer: ) I could use my contacts to help you job searching :meowreach:
@isi @deadheat @realcaseyrollins i studied engineering and quit after a semester. absolutely none of the services the college said they had were ever available "somehow."
@isi @deadheat @realcaseyrollins was so funny when i got the mail my diploma equivalent had been upgraded with extra honors credits because the actual high school students fucked too many donkeys. :blobcatlaugh:
