@realcaseyrollins I was wondering why you keep reposting pretty explicitly transphobic posts

transphobia

@realcaseyrollins well just now you repeated this post where someone calls Chelsea Manning 'a crossdressing man' and mocks her identity

re: transphobia

@realcaseyrollins there have been other times that you've done this just over the past few days I've been following you and was wondering why

@cantinto Is that really transphobic? It just seems to me.

I've seen posts, I promise you I'm no great hater or fearer (?) of trans people. I actually joined another user last year (IIRC) in condemning a bunch of users who were trolling and bullying a trans user because of her looks.

@cantinto Trans people are cool, I just don't think that anything other than your sex chromosomes determine whether someone is male or female. But if people disagree with me that's fine, I'm always happy to agree to disagree. The only real problems come when people aren't willing to do the same and decide to call me names, tbh.

@realcaseyrollins @cantinto Their argument is that sex and gender are different. Sex is biological, whereas gender is the cultural expression of that sex -- when we say "men", we do not mean male, we mean the cultural expression.

I don't agree with this, but most of the arguments against this ideology are bad.
@farhan @realcaseyrollins that whole argument is a massive conversation, and one I'm not looking to have here. we can talk until the cows come home, but for me the buck stops when you don't respect the individual person.

@farhan @cantinto Yeah all I'm trying to say is I think men are male and women are female...I mean what other people think is up to them. IDK if I'd misgender someone intentionally, that's kinda rude. So I can see why you might take umbrage with what I boosted, but that doesn't mean I condone the behavior

@realcaseyrollins @cantinto That’s called a dodge, Mr Rollins. You can make a stand and accept the consequences, or sit and avoid them, but you can’t stand and avoid the consequences.

If you decide that you are going to dismiss people like myself — calling us crossdressers, or mis-gendering us, dismissing us as delusional, or whatever it is when you ignore the research on transsexual peoples brains and how they end up like this — then don’t be surprised when we take a dim view of you. To expect otherwise is simply moral cowardice and not a mote less.

Its always disappointing to find someone you liked, would relegate you to the circus — and that’s precisely what you are doing. But I’m not a clown.

@shebang @cantinto I mean, I don't recall doing any of those things you're describing...I'm sorry if you're upset or offended but I'm not relegating you to a circus or anything of the sort. You might want to reread my replies.

@realcaseyrollins @cantinto Alright, but you’d need to explain this, because it seems straightforward to me.

“I just don’t think that anything other than your sex chromosomes determine whether someone is male or female.”

@shebang @cantinto If it's straightforward, why should I explain it? And why should we throw away all the great experiences we've had on the fedi over that belief?

@realcaseyrollins @cantinto

Well apparently I understood you perfectly clear then and rereading wasn’t necessary — and the request to do so utterly superfluous. I’m not sure what the point of that exercise was.

Because frankly, if someone believes I’m just some delusional crossdresser then none of those experiences were authentic.

I had believed that we had interacted in good faith — and I choose that word with precision — but privately you were of the opinion that I’m some kind of deviant or deranged person.

Would you continue to interact with someone who held that opinion about you? Doubtful, its highly insulting and more than a little degrading. Neither is the kind of thing I am obliged to put up with.

Do not act as if I am the prime mover of this, you made your choices, the consequences belong to you.

@shebang @cantinto Well, I'm sorry it came to this. Guess we're parting ways.

I wish you the best in your future endeavors! Don't be afraid to reach out if you want to be friends again.

✌🏾

@realcaseyrollins It is one thing to be critical of the construct of gender and its place in society. It is quite another to try and directly invalidate someone else's identity. One is a matter of philosophy and politics, and the other is just being a jerk.
