So my dudes

New leak

Mario 64, OOT, Kirby stuff apparently

Ooooooffffff

@coolboymew There is leaked source code for the iQue Player version of SM64 and it even has an unused model for Luigi.

@coolboymew Now someone uncovered a cut level from SM64. It's level 2 in the debug menu. In the final build, it just resets the game. Hopefully, we get to find the remaining cut levels from the debug menu.

@xianc78 yup, I saw other levels too

It seems we don't have enough assets to compile a rom, but enough to copy paste the files and put it in the source restoration

Quite crazy to see these missing numbers in the hidden level select

@coolboymew I find it strange that these were found in the iQue version though since that is the most recent version (unless you count SM64DS). These weren't found in the decomp of the US ROM and that predates the iQue version by 7 years.

@xianc78 Not quite, they weren't in the decomp, because obviously the unused files were not compiled

I'm not a programmer, but if a file is 100% unreferenced, wouldn't it not compile it? That or it was removed

There's actually not an amazing amount of beta assets for Mario 64 included in this and they found the versioning files, but unfortunately it seems like it's only going to contain iQue builds. The rest of the assets were just, lucky I guess?

We got some luck with OOT, see included pics, but so far it's just a few maps that can be seen in a viewer

The vast majority of the stuff is high quality renders and assets used for marketing and such, like a clean n64 logo, mario 64 box, etc

Luigi was pure luck too

@coolboymew

I never programmed for consoles, but to my understanding, a ROM file is NOT an executable but rather an archive file that contains the executable and associated files. Assets are different from code. You don't compile them. It is possible to include files in ROMs without referencing to them.

There ARE references to what is presumably Luigi in the decomp. Just no model or texture file. I always found that strange because according to Nintendo, Luigi was removed just 4 months before the game's release. You would expect there to still be a model or texture remaining in the ROM if he was cut so late in development.

@xianc78 hmm, strange then. If he was cut this late you'd imagine they would just leave it in. Despite that we have barely working and untextured Blaargg, huh?

Otherwise, just realized, they might be holding on to the OOT source code until the decompilation project is finished

@coolboymew Well if the source code is just the iQue version, then it still makes sense for the OOT decompilation project to continue since that is focused on the international versions.

@xianc78 Not sure if it has enough to compile a rom, however, apparently there's a compiled mario 64 shindou version with fill english around. Also the leak contain Animal Crossing 64 stuff with a full translation

However, I mean, if the leakers have full source for OOT, maybe from the other hack, they might be waiting until the project is done to not give nintendo more reasons to shut it down, I dunno. i just found it weird I haven't seen a rom floating around already

@coolboymew Supposedly, they also have the long lost Ura Zelda. I guess they somehow intend to release it on iQue as weird as it sounds. It could just be remnants though. I haven't check the full repros yet.

@xianc78 and Majora's Mask

However, if it's indeed just the iQue stuff, then there won't be much

Some digger swears the Ura stuff is Master Quest only, just the dungeon, but I dunno. Miyamoto spent a while hyping up ideas for it

We got the Ura and OOT debug rom, which had some interesting stuff, from the developper who did the gamecube port, it was some obscure euro dev I believe

Although, if Nintendo still had the full version control (did it even exists back then?) of OOT, how inconsequential it would have been to simply switch the dungeon files in the normal OOT debug rom, ignore the rest, and call it a day?
Follow

@coolboymew If it's Majora's Mask that is still an awesome find since it is the only known cancelled game on the iQue Player and people were looking for that ROM for years.

They did have version control back then. It only became more popular with the rise of open source. Judging by the Nintendo leaks from a few months ago, Nintendo really likes to use CVS which has been around since 1986. It wouldn't be that hard to switch the dungeon files. I guess they would've done just that if those were the only Ura Zelda assets that were completed.

Also makes sense since the emulator used for Master Quest was probably incapable of emulating 64DD ROMs so certain features of Ura Zelda couldn't be implemented. Hell, the emulator was incapable emulating the N64 Expansion Pak properly given how awful Majora's Mask ran on that thing.

@xianc78 The MM cart I bought was a rental copy, ouch. It was the most fragile POS, I would nudge the massive CRT the N64 was on a little and the game froze. The game froze in the worst way too... Remember that cutscene with the dancing scarecrow to advance time? It would randomly freeze to a frame of that, wtf? Made me jump every time. So yeah, I had to live with bad freezes too lol even on n64

Otherwise, yeah, there's still hope for lost content later in the non-ique leaks where the spaceworld stuff like the pokemon protos come from I believe

As for CVS, whoa, that old? That means that technically, Nintendo could have everything a year after SMB? That's freaking wild

And it's kind of wild that Nintendo will practically the only Japanese dev that still has all this shit. Square apparently doesn't even have the Kingdom Heart source code and that was on freaking PS2
