Shitposting aside, the obligatory Philosophy classes in College were hell for me. The first one, with Socrates, I just couldn't fucking do it, my ADHD triggered badly everytime I had to read one of these godforsaken unreadable bullshit, my eyes would just glaze into my skull from the amount of non-content the text has

I was put in a class specifically made for people who failed Philosophy 1, which I absolutely question such classes existence, there was no such class for anything else. All you had to do is succeed at one exam and I was the last one left, I just couldn't fucking do it. I did it somehow eventually, but fucking christ these text are an absolute hell to read, their meaning were absolutely loss to me in the sea of pointless rhetoric. I had to read sentences over and over as my brain just completely shut down from how fucking bored I was

They only make philosophy classes mandatory because almost nobody would take them otherwise and the philosophy professors would be underpayed. It's not about "expanding your mind". It's about paying the professors for useless courses.

Philosophy isn't required in my college, but my guidance counselor added Logic to my schedule during my Freshman year (we couldn't choose a schedule for first semester). I fucking failed that class. He thought that CS majors should take it to understand if-statements, but literally anyone can understand a fucking if-statement without a semester long class about proving theorems through deduction. Granted I think I would've passed it now. I was still in my lazy high school student mindset and wasn't aware that professors list all the homework assignments on their syllabi.

There is literally no point in having these classes. People who major in philosophy just to "expand their minds" are just wasting their time and money. You can just learn this shit on your own. I don't go to college to "expand my mind". I go there to learn what I need to know for my career path and get a degree. For the vast majority of students, whatever political/social/philosophic issues you bring are just going to go through their heads.
