Glad I'm not the only one who remembers them. I had one back in elementary school because of my poor handwriting due to dexterity issues. It's probably what got me into computers because I love memorizing the keyboard shortcuts.
@xianc78 people still hold on to them because there's no alternatives.
the closest to what they do is a 600$ freewrite (which is 450$ right now due to reasons) which is
i dunno. alphasmarts were a couple hundred new (they're only 20-50$ due to obsolescence) so.

@xianc78 if i had enough juice to get hardware fediblobs onboard i'd just say eh we could design a new one. but they're not interested in this.

@icedquinn Well given how cheap a used alphasmart is and the niche market it serves, I don't think there would be a market for one.
But now, I'm tempted to get a used Alphasmart. I remember the 3000 and Neo models (maybe the other ones too) could run small programs called "applets". I wonder if there is documentation out there. It would be fun to write homebrew software/games for that thing.
@xianc78 maybe i should just get one of those eink monitors and run emacs on it.
