I know there are bad aspects of society, but it's something that people need to fix themselves and not rely on the government for help.

In fact, I believe that getting rid of the government will make people more responsible since there will be no government to help them if they make shitty decisions with their lives. Have you ever noticed that the exact same people who participate in hyper-consumerism also want the state to provide them with welfare checks and free shit? I see more right-libertarians rejecting hyper-consumerism more than anyone else. While consumerism affects society, it's ultimately a PERSONAL issue.

And it's not my business if other people fall into this shit. I learn to resist temptation. I don't drink or do drugs, I save my money, I try to diversify my skills, I don't watch TV, I eat healthy, I pack my lunch ahead of time as opposed to ordering fast food. It's not that hard.
