Torba declined this and went overseas for hosting so he could make a dramatic show about how "freedom of speech in the USA is dead I had to host overseas" blah blah.

It proved again the only thing Torba is good at doing is kicking the hornets nest because he really riled them up hard and some fediverse client programmers blocked his domain (leading to a flamewar).
Anyhow it didn't take long for federation to be broken with Gab before he disabled federating because him and his users got mocked hard by the "freer" fedi instances that hate boomers, grifters, and anyone who doesn't like anime.
The only notable thing to come out of the fedi era is Soapbox being based on it.

I mean shit there's activitypub plugins for WordPress and GNUSocial of all things.
