I'm not sure how the hell Minecraft managed to work so well on the financial side of things but I could agree with it being fair. (unlike things like Call of Duty where it's treating people like cash cows)

there was a client called Portal that open sourced but it was written in delphi and used paid components so you just got this kinda crippled version that you needed an old proprietary compiler to do anything with. i don't think anyone cared enough to port it to lazarus.

or you use shit like gamebryo and speedtree where what would be open source has so many things ripped its useless
