I really feel legitimately bad about the pro-confederate stance I used to take in regards to civil war history in the past.
What I should have gotten from my Civil War research was that the conflict was a more nuanced issue then the media and mainstream historians usually represent; and that there were multiple sides and reasons for why people fought and why the war was started in the first place, instead I took an edgy "the south was right, actually" stance, it alienated a lot of people, and lost me some friends.
