I think it is intentional. Flat earth is obviously controlled opposition made to make other conspiracy theorists look dumb. Look how "anti-vaxxers", climate skeptics/deniers, etc are often lumped in with them.
All by design.
Tell someone the truth about everything for an hour, that person accepts it and realizes it's all true.
Then you go back home, and before you exit through the door, you say "oh BTW, the earth is flat", and that person will dismiss everything you told him, and will go like "Jesus Christ, why the fuck did I even listen to that fucking idiot!?".
