@lanodan @root They will be 20 years old in 4 years.

@xianc78 @lanodan @root Sometimes it just feels like if something has to be made in the previous century to be considered "retro", otherwise it will never be retro.

@ryo @root @lanodan Too me, when the kids who grew up with those consoles are adults, then it's retro. People who were 3 years old when those consoles came out are now over 18. And zoomers really seem to be nostalgic for the Wii given all the Wii Sports and Mario Kart Wii music remixes on Youtube.

But it might be harder to accept because those consoles set the standard for modern gaming (ditching memory cards, DLC, etc) so it's hard for people to accept them as retro. They also had really long lifespans. The last official Wii game was released two years ago. (Some limited edition port of Retro City Rampage)

@xianc78 @ryo @root Well it also feels weird to have your childhood being labeled as retro.
@lanodan @xianc78 @root My childhood has been labeled as retro 20 years ago already, nothing too weird here.
@lanodan @xianc78 @root @ryo I just decided to stop labeling stuff as 'retro' and go with what I like to play with :blobcatgooglyshrug:
@Polychrome @xianc78 @root @ryo Same and if I need to tell the age, I usually use the decade (ie. 90's) or the exact year if I know it.
retro is annoying, it gradually changes over time.
@Polychrome @xianc78 @root @lanodan The "retro" label is actually pretty useful these days.
All it means to me is that it has guaranteed no communist wokeness and no soycialist bullcrap like lootboxes, micro transactions, paid DLC, always online, and all the rest of the bloat inserted into it.

And yes, I don't consider those things to be capitalist, because capitalism relies on customers paying for quality on a voluntary basis (you pay and it's yours, you do with it whatever you want).
Soycialism on the other hand relies on stealing your money and scamming your wallet dry, even after you already bought it, regardless of how low quality the product is, which is exactly what all the current year bloat is.

@ryo @root @Polychrome @lanodan Video games were never capitalist. Real capitalism has no copyright, trademarks, or patents.

@xianc78 @root @Polychrome @lanodan The AAA devs of today used to be indies in their early days.
But then they got investor (BlackCock and/or VanGuard) money, and went to shit ever since.
@lanodan @xianc78 @root The entirety of the previous century with the exception of 1 year (2000) took place in the previous millenium.
