Remember kids, never use your real name on the internet
@dielan I don't even use my real name IRL.
I've gone exclusively by a nickname since I was a child, the majority of people I know don't even know what my first name is.

@Indigo @dielan I probably would've gone by my middle name if it wasn't the same name as someone that I'm related to and is still alive.

@xianc78 @dielan My first name is like that, it's actually a family name which is literally the only reason my parents gave it to me.
They're almost never called me by my first name for anything other then legal reasons, I consider the name I go by to be my "real" name.

@Indigo @dielan On a semi-related note, and it may sound weird, but I don't like people knowing my last name even IRL. I don't feel like it's important and I went to keep family stuff private, but if someone knows me because of someone that I'm related to, then I'm going to be known by a first and last name basis and be called by both my first and last name.

I hate last names. They're actually a recent invention. We went well fine without them. Hell, people in Iceland do use them that much.

@xianc78 @dielan Very understandable point of view. I somewhat benefit from the fact that I don't live anywhere near any extended family, and I have a very uncommon last name for the part of the country I live in; even if someone learns my last name, chances are it means nothing to them.
