Whatever its origins, often it seems like Not Your Shield is relevant...

Please stop using LGBT to justify Drag Queens... especially having story time with children. We are not the same. Nor your shield.

@sim@shitposter.club Drag Queens are historically an important part of LGBT protests in the previous century. I think that's why they are still included in the LGBT community.

@SuperDicq @sim Yeah but I think the children part could be put away given the quite understandable negative reactions it gets.

There's a lot of other spaces for Drags.

@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me @sim@shitposter.club Personally I have nothing against Drag Queen Story Hour. I don't see what about it can be considered unsuitable for children.

If you look at the concept relatively I think other characters in children's performances with such as circus clowns, mimes or even santa claus are infinitely more creepy than a drag queen, right?

I do agree that with the types of attention this is getting it is a good idea to consider stopping this concept, simply for the safety of the people involved.

@SuperDicq @sim
Yeah, it's more some adults that are the problem there.
It's the kind of thing where I'm quite afraid a conservative would attack a drag queen because of fucking politics, rather than an actual problem happening with the childs.

@aven @lanodan @SuperDicq @sim ITT Pleroma maintainer defends Drag Queen Story Hour, who’s surprised?

@alex @SuperDicq @lanodan @aven @sim why do mastodon instances block pleroma instances when the developers clearly support getting kids hooked on drugs too?

@PhenomX6 @alex @SuperDicq @lanodan @aven @sim Why do Pleroma users think all Mastodon instances are hugboxes when their software is still developed by the same types you find on Mastodon?

This is how the author describes itself.

Ana Valens is a reporter specializing in online queer communities, marginalized identities, and adult content creation. She is a former Daily Dot staff writer. Her work has appeared at Vice, Vox, Truthout, Bitch Media, Kill Screen, Rolling Stone, and the Toast. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, and spends her free time developing queer adult games.

Essentially, the author is a journo who makes tranny porn games…

Though I do feel that Gargron is a faggy leftist, and has done some undeniably shitty things, I think that he should consider that the community with which he surrounds himself hates him and will always hate him. They are narcissists who want credit for simply suggesting features. There is nothing that Gargron can do to satisfy them; these people hate him for being a white man.

Instead of hanging around faggots who hate him, why not realize that the funnest and most accomplished communities (Encyclopedia Dramatica, 4chan, pre-2014 Reddit) have always had very loose moderation. On mastodon.social, anyone who’s not a tranny has to walk on eggshells for anything they say. Who remains? the people who are so sensitive that they need content warnings. This is why rules-laden hugboxes are a bad idea.

I think if Gargron truly understand on a deep emotional level that these people are narcissists who will always hate him, he’d reconsider what he’s pushing for the future of Mastodon. Perhaps consider that defederation because trannies is mob appeasement, which never works.

That's the point I made posting this.

This article exists because the people who he panders to got tired of him for adding features and threw a meltdown harder than this side did at Alex for quote posts, because he added in hashtag trends. He's pandering to the crowd that gets off to editing readme files and thinking they're professional programmers or worse, the kaniini types who wind up going back to the walled garden of social media anyhow.

I know Alex Gleason has also stated in the past during a podcast that the idea behind Mastodon is that Twitter wasn't censoring enough, and one such look at early Mastodon "marketing" confirms this along with the fact they still believe the fairytale about Gab and why they are now non-federated (the real reason lies somewhere between "the guy involved sucks shit at tech" and "they got bullied by weebs", not "everyone fediblocked them").

Wasn't the original Gab codebase, before they federated, just some random PHP code they found off of GitHub? That just shows how incompetent Torba is. These people don't have passion for computers they either decided to form a new social network out of necessity or just want to cash in on those who have been deplatformed. I really hate how most right-wingers and other dissidents are this tech-illiterate.

And I remember people going after Gargron for refusing to add features like a hardcoded block for Gab or even a way to block all Pleroma instances (that would require all messages to include their instance software which I don't think ActivityPub has).
