Is kf.cc back up? Weird coincidence that someone starts CP-raiding Pawoo right around the time that happens; I was just thinking

Wonder how long it would have taken for Fedilist to see it's back up. "Next attempt scheduled for 11.8 hours ago." but the Lazarus queue for resurrecting long-dead instances moves much slower, so it's currently on instances that were due 58 hours ago, and there's a cutoff, something like whether the instance was live in the last week. Looks like it's been checking close to once a day, so it's probably a safe bet that it would have noticed some time today, but I shoved it to the front of the queue anyway.
@p @mintcel >Weird coincidence that someone starts CP-raiding Pawoo right around the time that happens; I was just thinking
what are you thinking
@colonelj @nukie @mintcel I think it's a stretch to ignore that the people that kick up a stink about drawings tend to all be clustered around KF.
@p @colonelj @mintcel I'm not sure if kiwifarmers would just download childporn like that. This is quite a stretch, even for me
@nukie @colonelj @mintcel

> I'm not sure if kiwifarmers would just download childporn like that.

You're thinking about it backwards. Most people don't hate hentai (I think most people don't care about it), but some percentage does, there's overlap between those people and people that would do a CP raid.

Someone *is* doing this, that someone lives somewhere else on fedi, and I think it's even odds that it's someone from that KF anti-drawings brigade.
@p @colonelj @mintcel I dunno, I still think it's someone unrelated to kf or even our side of the fediverse
@nukie @colonelj @mintcel So, look at the bios:

> "<p>IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE</p><p>REPORT IT WHEN YOU SEE IT JAPS</p>"
> "<p>I CAN KEEP DOING THIS AS LONG AS PAWOO IS FEDERATED AND ALLOWS SIGN UPS</p><p>WANT IT TO STOP? BLOCK THE PAWOO DOMAIN RETARD</p>"

So, both times, they said "JAPS" or "RETARD" in the calls to action, so someone that doesn't think that calling people "Japs" or "retards" is going to make them ignore the demand. The second one is specifically demanding domain blocks, so it's probably someone that isn't opposed to domain blocks, and also probably one of the types of person that isn't content to just block the domain on their own but wants everyone to do what they are doing; that or just a random shit-stirrer. And since they were addressing Japanese people in the first one but doing so in English, it's someone that doesn't speak Japanese. And it's someone that had some CP and thinks a CP raid is going to work (or just someone that wanted to do some shit-stirring). They'd also have to be from one of the areas of fedi that doesn't block Pawoo as a knee-jerk. Since the mode of spreading the CP was by automated like-spamming probably someone that knows how to code, at least at a high enough level to use/adapt some basic tools. (It's unlikely it was some lunatic doing it manually but that's still possible.) And it'd have to be someone that either doesn't have moral objections to CP or that espouses moral relativism to the extent that posting CP is worth it if people block Pawoo. The way they talk, it's someone that's been around fedi.

So there are a few groups of people that this rough sketch fits really well. One of the groups on that list is the hard-line anti-drawings brigade that arrived on fedi through KF (though a lot of them have since been banned from KF; bans from the forum don't carry over to KF.cc). I'm not saying that's a definite thing, I'm saying that it is one of the things that fits what we know so far, and you'd have to be crazy to say it couldn't be that group. Could have been Snow (plenty of false flags, hates drawings, hates Pawoo, hates Japanese people, fixated on CP; seems unlikely Snow would be able to string together those sentences, though); could have been Opal (has done CP raids before, has hosted CP), but they both allegedly left fedi forever. Could have been a lot of people. I'd wager that it is someone that we have heard of before, because no one would risk posting CP to achieve something unless they had already tried other options that didn't work, like complaining loudly and persistently and making demands.

I don't think we're gonna find out who it was. I would like whoever is doing it to fail, though, if for no other reason than to prevent this from turning out to be an effective tactic.
@p @nukie @colonelj @mintcel Yeah somebody spammed CP on all the fchan instances non stop so everyone deleted all the fchan instances and the developer stopped developing it afterward
ZeroNet 8chan infamously had this happen, amplified by the fact that browsing ZeroNet sites would cause content to be shared by everyone.

ZeroNet's dev wound up abandoning the project after this and the last release was in 2019, which just so happens to be when the 8chan shitshow happened and everyone was looking for a new bunker.
@PhenomX6 @get @nukie @colonelj @p @mintcel I remember in the early days after 8chan's death, when people were suggesting ZeroNet as an alternative, I (and many other people) insisted that exact thing would happen, and all the ZeroNet shills insisted it never would. Even if it was never intended to be a honeypot, it was obviously about to be filled to the brim with it; you'd need to be blind to not see it coming.

@galena @PhenomX6 @nukie @colonelj @p @get @mintcel The creator of ZeroNet suggested that everyone should create smaller sites that were easier to moderate. ZeroNet even had "merger sites" which pretty much operate just like the fedi (except that it's all P2P) where people can moderate smaller sites that connect with other sites.

I had a lot of faith in ZeroNet despite it's flaws. I wanted it to become the next big thing, but I was very naive.

Another problem with ZeroNet is that it is not anonymous and unless you are using Tor or a VPN, your IP address will be visible to everyone. Most people who were using the 8chan bunker were doing so under their bare IP.
