@lanodan You better tape your webcam or use a laptop without one.
@xianc78 Thinkpads come with an integrated camera shutter.
Before that I would physically unplug the integrated webcam (I basically never show my face anyway).

@lanodan I've only soldered once in my entire life and that was a decade ago. I do want to get back to it because it's such a useful skill, but there are dozens of skills I regret not fully learning in my youth.
I've actually never seen a laptop with hardware volume controls. The oldest laptops I ever got my hands on were pre-OSX MacBooks and I don't think they ever had hardware volume controls.
@xianc78 @xianc78 @lanodan There was a recent laptop that doesn't have a webcam but has microphones. It's an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14, although the newer ones with a Radeon 6000 GPU have a webcam.

@xianc78 I would recommend a suitable Thinkpad T400 or R400 - many units have no camera (you might want to remove the in-built microphone - but disassembly is reasonable).
As for newer laptops, why would you want to get a laptop that won't boot without proprietary software?

Reminds me that I wish volume control on laptops would still be full-hardware based, you just need a potentiometer.
