the wii u has pretty much the same CPU as a GC but with slightly better graphics lol
how did nintendo even get away with. everything they've done since the SNES
@chjara
1) they're the only ones selling at a profit
2) lower dev costs for internal teams, contracted teams, and third parties due to not having to target top spec hardware capabilities
3) photorealism and "graphics" are high grade copium and anyone clued in realizes this, https://shmuplations.com/yokoi/
@allison @chjara Wii U games looked fantastic anyways. Nintendo Land, 3D World, hell, Wooly World looks better than Crafted World on the Switch.
@w @allison nintendo is pretty good at hiding just how bad their graphics chips are through clever cartoon aesthetics and shading
@chjara @w I would say less "hiding" and more "having good art direction"
@chjara @w https://extortionindustry.org/ ironically, miya of all people had a well thought out and cogent take on the whole situation which I broadly agree with (although as typical for a decent bit of miya stuff he starts with a value neutral or good thing and ends up derailing heavily and going way off into the weeds with it) https://extortionindustry.org/

@allison @w @chjara That site hasn't updated their "Harmful Practices" page since they first launched back in 2019.

@allison I always wanted to know why they included "Closed Source and Non-Free Software" in their "Harmful Indie Practices" section. Only a handful of indie games are FOSS. Even the earliest indie games were closed-source shareware and freeware.

I wouldn't consider it harmful unless you are full freetard. In that case 99% of the video games out there are unethical to you.
