I feel bad for all the people who want to join fedi, find out all the cool instances have registration locked for 100% merited reasons, and end up at a jannied shithole where you talk about topics like how much you hate Elon Musk and Twitter, how great Mastodon is, and nothing else for fear of walking on eggshells.

They then move back to Twitter because all the artists are on it along with shitty memes.
The thing with Mastodon instances with rules like this is they sound reasonable on paper. Then you actually talk and you're walking on eggshells.

See; ResetEra forums.

ResetEra forums are highly infamous for being the worst online, namely for their moderation policy in which every single post you're making is walking on eggshells combined with the fact that ResetEra will ban you for not supporting whatever their current thing is, the moderators not wanting you to talk about something, or even posting a joking comment on a thread (drive-by trolling is their term for it).

Most of the people on here are here because they got jannied pre or post Musk and took the hint that "Twitter isn't a place to be very subversive and recruit people on", but normies are going to see the jannies and decide "meh I'm going back to Twitter".
@PurpCat its kinda why you need to know people to get in to the cooler side
I know of a couple that do have open reg, but they are relatively small and hard to find at times
@theorytoe You can't even be a poastie anymore, it's gonna be like KF is for the past few years where people are invite begging.
@PurpCat I mean why would you join poast in the first place
thats like putting a massive target on your back
@theorytoe It's the same reason boomers signed up for gab, it's what they know and they can say the funny words on it/whine about so and so on it.

@PurpCat @theorytoe I was always skeptical of Gab. I always knew that decentralization was the better option. I was wondering why almost none of them have heard of Diaspora and the Fedi. Though I wasn't aware of how Eugen wanted to use Mastodon to create a "Nazi-free Twitter", and I didn't take into account how tech-illiterate many right-wingers really are.

To this very day, every time I'm in the car with my Dad and the conservative talk show hosts shill something like Truth Social or Rockfin, I always double facepalm.

Mostly that's because the old guard skews older and there are a lot of grifters who are just as midwit as the boomers. For every John Dvorak who was tech savvy to begin with, there's a lot of grifters like Torba and people who see no reason to leave the gated community or worse, think the Twitter fight can still be won.

>there are a lot of grifters who are just as midwit as the boomers.

What's even worse is that many of them are aware of the Fediverse (including the non-fediblock side), but still hate it. I've even heard rumors that Ethan Ralph was involved in the recent Poast hack, but I can't confirm it because I never payed any attention to him.

>think the Twitter fight can still be won.

Even if it is, it isn't even worth winning, especially when even Jack Dorsey openly admitted that contributing to the centralization of the Internet was a bad idea. Social media should have either never existed or have been decentralized since day one (technically it was if you count the finger protocol as an early form of microblogging, but whatever).

Really the only valid excuse to be on Twitter at this point is if you are a game developer, celebrity, business owner, etc and are solely using it to provide updates, and even then you should still have a proper website, email, and RSS/Atom feed. And those sites should have comment sections like they used to have, so they can interact with their audiences that way.

But of course, cuckservatives, mainstream libertarians, and many on the "dissident right" will never get this. If you bring up mailing lists, RSS feeds, and personal websites, they usually respond saying "this isn't the 90s anymore".

@xianc78 @theorytoe I have a lot of thoughts on this I'll properly articulate when I get home but Ethan Ralph is less right wing and more of a dipshit eceleb who will do and say anything if he thinks it'll get him big. Except after the healstream any chance of him being big flamed out and he's also a trailer park retard orbited by bigger retards (both for and against him).
