The only thing related to violence I can think of that FB/Meta did was when the NZ shooter livestreamed it on FB. They also confirmed that nobody reported the video until it concluded 30 minutes ago, and that they made a good faith effort to remove reuploads.

FB also will pull down shock videos if they're reported and they go to the EN moderation team. The issue with non-EN moderation (and sometimes corners of the site) is a universal problem with every big tech company. I'm also sure there's also a huge heavy load on a site the size of FB as well.
So from reading between the lines, first of all I'll say it again: all big tech platforms have issues with non-EN moderation. The majority of the moderation team is focused on moderating Anglosphere countries and the second part is focused on moderating GAE subjects/countries. The rest they could not give a shit about and I've heard stories that outside EN big tech shit like CP is a massive problem.

I'm not excusing it, if anything it's exactly why many countries will block FB/Google or will have most people on their own local clone of it.

But this whole thing sounds a lot like "Facebook caused 1/6" and other fun stuff like that. It's not the magical algorithm causing something, but rather what people are saying all the time causing it, and it comes down to a userbase problem.
The other problem with this mindset is, eventually the logical endgame of it is "only we should be allowed to run a social media site and not you." Which means bye bye fediverse hosting if someone wants to claim you literally are killing people.

@PurpCat @gabriel Honestly, we would probably be totally fucked if we end up having a Christchurch situation on the Fedi.

After the 8chan-linked shootings, many hosting providers refused to allow imageboards to be hosted on their servers. And many of the bunker sites were attacked with CP spam and DDoS attacks. I can see something similar happening to the fedi.

I think they'll make sure to go after anyone who doesn't have lamb blood (Mastodon and/or a CoC) on their door.

@PurpCat @gabriel GameLiberty, Liberdon, Baarag, and Pawoo all use Mastodon and they are not aligned with Eugen.

Pawoo's the only one that has a CP spam problem out of those and I know mint or someone else with knowledge of the fedi pedo sphere speculated it was because of fedi pedos trying to get revenge at someone or something gay like that.

Also Baraag and Pawoo are mostly apolitical and Baraag has users who will send reports if you say castrating kids is unethical and whatnot.

GameLiberty and maybe Liberdon aren't too high profile either. I think if they went for instances, they'd go for Poast, NCD, and the "sphere" around it (nobodyhasthebiz, pieville, etc.) the most.

Poast might be the most likely because they have a fucking Wikipedia article now.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poast

NCD seems to want to stay as small as possible. They even have registers set to manual-approval. Pieville is just a bunch of schizo boomers, and while Linder is a well-known Neo-Nazi, his type of Nazis, have pretty much fell off the radar as far as the media is concerned.

GameLiberty used to have a pedo problem. It got so bad that Poast removed us from their federated timeline and almost defederated from us outright. Otherwise, we are relatively tame compared to instances like Poast or even Baest or FSE.

Liberdon doesn't appear to be as active. A lot of the accounts on there are just bots repeating posts from Twitter. And I bet a lot of the users on there were bullied of the Fedi by the likes of Poast. Seriously just posting anything remotely libertarian will get you dogpiled by them like what happened to one libertarian blogger last month who merely just linked an article critiquing minarchism.

@PurpCat @gabriel I guess enough news outlets are claiming that Poast is an off-shoot of KiwiFarms that people think it justifies a Wikipedia article.

Really the only think that KF and Poast have in common is their obsession with dissident-right grifters and the drama that surrounds them. But in reality, Poast is really just more like a cringier version of /pol/, but with IDs.
